CASTING ACTORS & SINGERS FOR STAGED CONCERT READING OF NEW MUSICAL (Huntsville, AL)
Casting for the world premiere staged concert reading of the new Broadway-bound musical, "Rocket Boys", based on the best-selling book by Homer Hickam, about a young man's struggle to break free from his environment and reach for his mile-high dreams. Bulk of period set from 1957-1960. Music & Lyrics by Diana Belkowski & Dan Tramon; Direction by Carl Anthony Tramon; Stage Adaptation by Christopher Budinich. To be performed at Merrimack Hall in Huntsville, AL on May 24th and 25th, with limited rehearsals taking place during the preceding 2 weeks. Looking for experienced and excellent singer-actors with versatility and ability to take direction. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Seeking the following principal roles:
Homer: 40-55, strong, intense, humorless, displays and administers great discipline, both a businessman and a blue-collar worker, high baritone;
Elsie: 40-55, warm but the years have hardened her, strong, smart touches of humor, maternal and protective, alto/mezzo;
Quentin: 16-23, brilliant, self-absorbed but charming, somewhat nerdy, a plethora of useless information, tenor;
Roy Lee: 16-23, fun, jokester, Elvis-lover, a schemer with heart, happy-go-lucky, tenor;
O'Dell: 16-23, childlike, naïve, strong, not exactly intelligent, at times confrontational and emotional, baritone;
Dorothy: 16-23, confident, stunning, object of all the boys' attention, flirtatious and suggestive although genuinely caring, outwardly secure
but struggling inside, wide range of emotion, soprano/belt;
Valentine: 16-23, funny, "one of the boys", best friend, vulnerable, possibly plain but cute, devoted, outwardly insecure but comfortable in her skin, alto/mezzo;
Miss Riley: 25-35, warm, sensitive, intelligent, attractive, a woman who inspires creativity and fights for fairness, soprano/belt mix.
Bykovski: 40-55, distinguished, warm & endearing, gentle, a philosopher and unintended father figure, possible accent, baritone;
Blevins: 30-60, happily intoxicated, craggy, a bit dangerous, hardened drunk, a used car salesman of alcohol, good physical comedy, very expressive character vocals, tenor;
Jim: 18-25, beefy jock, narcissistic, condescending, aggressive, baritone/tenor;
Dubonnet: 30-50, troublemaker, rabble-rouser, bitter and angry, bass/baritone;
Basil / Mr. Turner: 30-50, neat and appointed, strong, energetic, man of conviction, personable, always wants what is best, tenor.
Narration / Kennedy: 30-40, good-natured, attractive, articulate, masculine, good sense of rhythm, humor, and timing.
Ensemble: Seeking actor / singers for chorus and possible additional roles.
