Character breakdown

Eurydice cast

Her Father (50¹s to 60¹s) He is dead. Henry Fonda-ish. Determined to
maintain the connection to his daughter from the Underworld. When alive he
might have been described as ³Mr. Cellophane.² He is the center of the story
but too unassuming to acknowledge it. He is dragging physically from the
weight of fighting forgetting.

Orpheus (30¹s) He is an artist, a musician. He sees the world as full of
possibilities and disappointments. He is magnetic; we should be drawn to him
both in appearance and vocal timbre. He must be able to protect Eurydice
emotionally and physically‹he wants to make her his muse.

A Nasty Interesting Man/The Lord of the Underworld (unearthly, ageless from
15 to 60) Physically like Bob Fosse in The Little Prince. Snakelike,
slightly frightening yet alluring. Quick to anger but sleazily enticing. A
salesman as the Nasty Interesting Man, a petulant child as ruler of Hades.
Must be very agile and either slight, tall or oddly fascinating in some way.
Needs to be able to ride a bike.

A Chorus of Stones (20¹s to 60¹s) Women of every shape and size. Very dead.
Very haughty. They are bitter, sarcastic and without pity. They are rooted
to the underworld like ladies rocking on the porch, or children swinging on
the schoolyard, or birds perched on a wire. They observe without comment.

Big Stone: The oldest and wisest. Big doesn¹t have to signify height or
weight just the space she takes up.

Little Stone: The youngest and most childlike. Little doesn¹t have to
signify height or weight just the space she fails to fill.

Loud Stone: Literally. She will be heard. Loud may also mean most negative.
Or difficult.
