Synopsis:
First Run Theatre, a professional company dedicated to presenting
world premiere productions of plays by local-area playwrights,
presents a new play inspired by the great 1930's Melodramas of Stage
and Screen. The time is 1936 in St. Louis when the Great Depression
is just starting to turn around. Hanna owns a rundown hotel with her
husband a drunken invalid. To make ends meet she has ladies "work" at
the hotel servicing customers. She is in the midst of renovating the
hotel for perceived better times to come with the help of her 'Okie'
cousin, Jake, and his brother, Seth. She is also 8 months pregnant.
She faces a crisis when her ne'er-do-well son, Daniel, arranges a
"session" for a young friend, Robert. It is a play about hope,
survival, and secrets.
