Soundstage Productions 2009 Season Auditions

Soundstage Productions, a Professional Non-Equity (501 3c) Company, is
holding it's 2009 season auditions on Jan. 10, 1:00 P.M., at the
R.A.C. building.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the season schedule.
They are:

At Last (March 5 through March 15)

A new musical directed by Dave Houghton, written by St. Louis musician/
composer Leona Ernst and singer/actress Laura Ernst, which is making
its professional debut this year. Featuring a score of 15 original
songs in the classical musical theatre style, it tells the story of a
young man's struggle to overcome the ghosts of his past. Each act
features three different and interrelated characters, and the six
roles will be played by three actors. The female roles Joan/Diane
have already been cast.

Seeking 2 Men with wide tenor-baritone ranges

The male roles are:
Max/Jeremy, baritone, age range 45-60
Nick/Tommy, tenor, age range 25-40
Please bring 32 bars of a ballad; sides will be provided at the
audition.

Chuckle with Chekhov (May 14 through May 24)

Three One-Acts by Anton Chekhov translated by Laurence Senelick and
directed by Emily Baker.
(Note: Some actors may be asked to play more than one role.)

Minimum Total: 6 Men, 3 Women.


"The Celebration"

Play Description
On a very important evening in the life of Audrey Shipuchin, nothing
goes according to plan.
Characters:
Andrey Shipuchin – (middle-aged male) Bank Chairman
Tatyana – (mid-late 20's) Chairman's somewhat flighty wife
Kuzma Khirin – (male) bank's bookkeeper
Nastasya Merchutkina – (40's or older female) determined to get her way
Shareholders and Employees of the bank – (any gender and age)

"The Evils of Tobacco"

Play Description:
A man giving a lecture on tobacco strays way off topic when he focuses
on his pathetic life instead.
Characters:
Ivan– (middle-aged or older) husband unhappily married to a wife who
has him "whipped"

"The Power of Hypnotism"

Play Description:
Two men fight for the love of a beautiful woman, while she has other
plans in mind.
Characters:
Yuliya Krasnushkina – (30's female) an interesting little widow with
hypnotizing eyes
Shipunov – (30's – 40's male) a colonel in love with Yuliya
Ledentsov – (mid-late 20's male) a young pharmacist's assistant in
love with Yuliya
Messenger – (male) actual lover of Yuliya who disguises himself as a
messenger


Working Stiffs From the writings of Studs Terkel. (July 9 through
July 19)

Directed and Compiled by Betsy Gasoske.

Ensemble Company of 4 Men and 4 Women (18-65)

Working Stiffs is an adaptation of Studs Terkel's 1974 classic
Working. This production will explore the differences and
similarities between working Americans in 1974 and today by using
these documented interviews as the basis for interweaving monologues
from these everyday workers. How did people feel about there jobs
then? How do the recession worries of then and now compare? Have we
as working Americans really changed as much as we think we have in the
last 35 years? We will explore these questions and more in Working
Stiffs.

William Shakespeare's Greatest Hits (Sept. 24 through Oct. 4)

Ensemble Company of 4 Men and 4 Women (20-60)

Scenes, soliloquies, monologues and musings from the greatest writer
in the English language.
