Auditions for student film HEAVEN IS DARK

Hi, my name is Jace Repshire. I'm a student at Webster University
producing this film as my senior overview project. The film, titled
"Heaven is Dark", is half an hour in length and will be shot during
the month of April, primarily on weekends. Seven of the eight
characters have already been cast, but I still need to find an actor
to play the part of Rowan, a man age 20-30 who has a good deal of
screen time in the film.

To give you a general idea, the film centers around a young man named
Dess, who begins to experience a series of strange, dreamlike
scenarios. He quickly loses his ability to distinguish between what
is real and what is not, and throughout the film he is knocked back
and forth between the mundane reality of his office job, a devastated
city where he is chased by zombie-like lunatics, a scenic pasture
where he meets an unlikely guide in a dog whose thoughts he can hear,
and a horrifying scene in which he is being tortured in a stranger's
home, and his lover, Rowan, is made to watch. Throughout the
conflict, Dess is forced to reevaluate his perception of reality and
determine which things he truly values. Other characters are forced
to make the same judgment.

This film handles the torture aspect seriously, attempting to
criticize careless entertainment torture flicks that I feel to an
extent desensitize audiences, lowering sensitivity to the fact that
these violent practices take place in real life. While the vehicle
for this device is a man's prejudice against gays, another reason for
creating the main characters Rowan and Dess as a romantic couple is
that I feel gay characters are overly stereotyped in films and are
never represented as main characters in action, fantasy, or other
genre films that are so popular these days. With it's action and
fantasy elements, this film is my attempt to defy that trend.

To describe Rowan's character, he is protective of Dess and willing to
stand up to the man who is torturing him. Rowan supports Dess through
the ordeals he is facing and is there with him right down to the end.
Rowan is featured in three of the four scenarios, so there will be a
minimum of three seperate shooting dates for this character, as well
as some rehearsals with other cast members prior to shooting. Once
again, shooting will take place primarily on weekends during april,
but not on Easter weekend. One weeknight may also be necessary. The
first shooting date is Saturday April 4th. The others will be
announced within a week from now.

About myself, I am a student at Webster University. I've directed
several short films, two of which were nominated for a university
award. I also directed a half-hour TV show in 2006 called "Surviving
a Supernatural Disaster" that won Best Studio Production in the Video
category at Webster's annual Media Excellence Awards (The Webbies).
The show aired multiple times on KDHX.

If you are interested in auditioning for this role, please email me a
resume and head shot(s) at lion-wings@live.com . I will send you a
copy of the audition sides for Rowan, and if you request it I will
send you the full script as well. Though this is a non-paying
project, union actors are welcome, as long as thier union allows it.
One of my current cast members is a member of the Screen Actors Guild,
and two are members of AFTRA. I will gladly make the necessary
contacts and file paperwork for anyone in a union.

Auditions will take place Sunday, March 15 at Webster University from
1-5pm. If you have any additional questions I can also be reached at
314-229-8168. Once you are certain you would like to audition, email
me with a time you would like to. Auditions will be scheduled every
fifteen minutes, starting at 1pm.

Thank you all. I look forward to hearing from you!
