Submissions of Material for new musical

NEW LINE THEATRE CALLS FOR
SUBMISSIONS OF MATERIAL FOR
THE NEW MUSICAL THEATRE PIECE,
"RUSH LIMBAUGH SAVES THE WORLD"

New Line Theatre, "the Bad Boy of Musical Theatre," announces another
new project, this time a collaborative musical theatre piece about
American politics and culture at this amazing, transformational moment
in our history. "Rush Limbaugh Saves the World" will open New Line's
20th season in the fall of 2010, as part of the 2010 St. Louis
Political Theatre Festival. Full details are at www.newlinetheatre.com/rushpage.html

New Line Theatre seeks submissions of smart, original, dynamic scenes
and songs for a new musical theatre piece focusing on Rush Limbaugh as
a snapshot or crystalization of this moment in American culture. The
chosen pieces will be assembled into the full-length musical, "Rush
Limbaugh Saves the World," to be produced in fall 2010 for a four-week
run.

Submitted scenes and songs can be about Rush himself, about political
discourse in America, about the cultural impact of conservative talk
radio, or any other related themes. They can be in any style, from any
perspective, though we prefer pieces that are active, that contain
action or change, that take the audience on a journey of some kind.
They can be serious or comic, straightforward or satiric. They can be
entirely about Rush or they can use Rush as a point of entry into
politics, pop culture, talk radio, etc. New Line is interested in
provocative, insightful, thoughtful submissions, not simplistic
attacks, and nothing that could be considered blatantly untrue or
slanderous will be chosen. No submission should be longer than 10-15
minutes at most. No previously published material will be accepted.
Adult language and content are not a problem. The show will be modeled
in part on concept musicals like Company, Assassins, Jacques Brel, The
Cradle Will Rock, and Songs for a New World.

The show will be assembled and shaped by New Line artistic director
Scott Miller and writer-director Todd Schaefer. Each piece selected
for the show will receive an equal share of the royalty and will
retain rights to their work outside the context of the New Line show,
but New Line will retain non-exclusive rights to the material chosen,
allowing for a later production by New Line, or for licensed
productions by other companies if there is interest (with all the
authors still getting royalties). Authors may submit more than one
piece, and we may select more than one piece from a single author. In
some cases, the pieces may be changed or edited somewhat in the
process of shaping the final show, and the order and context of the
pieces will be the decisions of Miller and Schaefer. Submission of
material will be considered an author's permission to use and/or alter
that material.

Submitted songs should include a recording and fully notated piano/
vocal music. The show will use a small band but instrumental
arrangements are not necessary. For more info on the project, visit www.newlinethaetre.com/rushpage.html

Deadline for submissions is August 31, 2009. We prefer that materials
be submitted electronically to NewChaz64@aol.com or they can be mailed
to:
