Student Casting Call Pre-Teen/Teenagers for Spring Musical

at Cabaret Showcase Productions in St. Louis City, MO

The Cabaret Showcase Production is needing teenagers 12-14 to
to participate in a” independent project” workshop they are giving. One of their directors has written an original musical playwright over the last year. He is eager to submit this show into the Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest.

Shubert Fendrich was the founder of Pioneer Drama Service. After his death in 1989, in a tribute to him, the Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest was developed. The contest is held annually to encourage the development of theatrical material for educational purposes and community theaters. One winner is selected each year. The winner from the previous calendar year is announced each year on June 1. The winner will receive $1000.00 royalty and publication.

The project musical is a spoof of the “The Wizard of Oz”. The Adventure in Clause is about a girl named Holly who is swept away by a blizzard and transported to the land of Clause. Along the way she meets Raggedy Andy who is in need of his thinking cap hat. Angel the most beautiful angel in all the land yet has no wings. The Gingerbread Man who misses his decorative gumdrop buttons and Peter the Penguin who misses his warm scarf. Only Santa can return her home, but will it be before Christmas before the evil Ice King gets to her? We have read this show and it is a very upbeat-new rock musical score!!

Before he can send the final copy to the company, they suggest that the writer do a “Workshop” and send in some type of visual-aid for the show. We plan to hold a Workshop “performance” for the musical. The workshop will take place Friday February 25th & Saturday February 26th. It will be a cold-reading audition workshop (Part 1), on Friday February 25th at Trinity Lutheran School and rehearsal workshop (Part 2) on Saturday February 26th at SIUE Abbot Auditorium. At the audition he will explain the musical in detail and then have a reading “audition”. He will then cast the show, rehearse the stage reading and do a mini-performance. The only requirement at the auditions that the director will need is for the performer to sing 16-32 bars of a musical theater piece of their choice. There are many speaking and singing roles for all!!! During the mini performance we will be recording this "staged reading". If this show is selected, the performers name will appear on the Pioneer Drama website as the original cast of the show. This looks good on resumes when these young performers audition for other productions.

Tentative Schedule and Information:

Friday February 25th 6pm-9:30pm (Auditions and Read Through)- this will be at Trinity Lutheran School (600 Water Street, Edwardsville)

Saturday February 26th 2:00pm-8:30pm- (SIUE Abbot Auditorium)

1:00pm-2:30pm (Staging the Show)

BREAK (Snack)

2:45pm-4:00pm (Staging the show again):

4:00pm-5:00pm (Dinner Break)

5:00pm-8:30pm (Review and “Mini-Staging Performance-"stop and Go")

The cost for the workshop will be $20.00. This will go toward scripts and cover the costs for the performer’s lunch and dinner.

Thank you for your time and consideration. This show will need not only alot of girls but it will really need ALOT of boys!!! Please notify us on or before Thursday February 24th by phone only, at 618- 980-8524 if you would like to audition and be apart of this new original show!! If you have any questions on rehearsals/etc...Please do not hesitate to call. We hope you will be interested in helping him submit his musical. We really look forward to working with all!
