Hard Road Theatre is having auditions for their upcoming winter musical I LOVE YOU BECAUSE
A modern-day musical love story, I LOVE YOU BECAUSE is a sweet and funny romantic comedy about contemporary dating in New York City. The Wall Street Journal called it “everything an off-Broadway musical should be … a charming piece of work that will send you home smiling,” and The New York Times concurred, praising it as “terrific, refreshing fun – filled with wit and zest.” And the acclaimed score by the new writing team of Ryan Cunningham & Joshua Salzman was hailed as “impressive, distinctive, tuneful and smart.”

All performances will be held in the Highland High School Kennel
We’ll start rehearsals in early November, but will usually only meet once a week. The goal is to have all music and dance learned by year end and then we’ll hit it hard and put it all together after the first of the year when things calm down.

Austin, tenor to A
Jeff, bari-tenor to G (optional A)
Marcy, soprano, strong mix to F, belt to D
Diana, alto to D
Everyman, bari-tenor
Everywoman, soprano
Ideally, the named cast members are 20 to 30-somethings and Everyman and Everywoman can be older. But don’t let your age be a barrier. Let the director make that call.
Everyone will be asked to prepare a specific song from the show. Unlike other auditions, you will not be asked to sing a song of your own choosing. Pick a song that best fits your vocal range. Song selections are:
Soprano – Even Though, m48 – end…with the pickup
Alto – But I Do, m1 – m21 (Both parts)
Tenor – Oh What a Difference, m88 – end (Both parts)
Baritone – Goodbye, m95 – end

In addition to the musical audition, you will be asked to do a brief cold reading from the script and learn/perform a basic dance routine.
