Non-Union West End Players Guild auditions for Ionesco's Exit the King

at West End Players Guild in St. Louis City, MO

West End Players Guild will hold auditions for the final show of its 2011-2012 season on Saturday, January 14, at 1:00 p.m. at the theatre in the Union Avenue Christian Church, 733 Union Boulevard (just north of Delmar).

WEPG will present Eugene Ionesco’s Exit the King April 13-22, 2012, with performances Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees. Renee Sevier-Monsey will direct, assisted by Carrie Phinney.

Exit the King, which recently was revived on Broadway, offers an absurdist exploration of ego and mortality set in the crumbling throne-room of King Berenger the First, who has only the duration of the play left to live. Once he ruled an immense empire, but now his kingdom has shrunk to the confines of his garden wall. His present and former Queens must help him face the final, inevitable truth of life: Death.

Roles are available for three men and three women as follows:

• King Berenger 1st (older adult)

• Queen Marguerite, the first wife (older adult)

• Queen Marie, the second wife (younger adult)

• The Doctor (older adult)

• Juliette, nurse and domestic help (adult, any age)

• The Guard (adult, any age)

West End Players Guild is a non-Equity professional company; all actors will be paid a stipend. No appointment is required for the auditions. Auditioners are asked to bring a resume and a headshot. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts; sides will be provided at the audition. Ample free parking is available on the parking lot behind the church; auditioners should use the basement entrance to the theater from the parking lot.

Auditioners may submit questions to the director by email to wepgnews@westendplayers.org or by phone to 314/367-0025.

West End Players Guild is St. Louis’s oldest continuously-operating theatre company, providing “big theatre in a small space” since November, 1911, and now presenting its second century of performances.
