Meg March - The oldest March sister, she is responsible and kind and adores her younger sisters. Meg has a small weakness for luxury and leisure, but the greater part of her is gentle, loving and morally vigorous.

Jo March - The protagonist of the story and the second oldest March sister. She has a temper and a quick tongue, although she works hard to control both. She is a tomboy who reacts with impatience to the many limitations placed on women at the time.

Beth March - The third March daughter, Beth is very quiet and virtuous and does nothing but try to please others. She adores music and plays the piano.

Amy March - The youngest March girl. Amy is an artist who adores visual beauty and has a weakness for pretty possessions. She is given to pouting and vanity but does attempt to improve herself.

Marmee - The March girls' mother. Marmee is the moral role model for her girls. She counsels them through all of their problems and works hard and happily while her husband is at war.

Hannah - The Marches' loyal servant. She is a member of the family and provides comfort and discipline for the girls in their mother's absence.

Aunt March - A rich widow. Although, she is crotchety and difficult, Aunt march loves her nieces and wants the best for them.

Aunt Carroll - Another of the March girls' aunts. She is ladylike but meek and retiring in the presence of Aunt March.

Sally Moffatt - A wealthy friend of the girls'. In direct conflict with the March girls, she is silly and affected and has a childish speech pattern.

The role of Amy is technically 12 years old in this part of the story, but could be played by someone older. No one under the age of 10 will be permitted to audition.

The play begins that memorable Christmas when Marmee leaves to visit her sick husband and Jo sells her beautiful hair to help finance the trip. It ends just a year later when the happy family is again preparing to celebrate not only Christmas but also the return of Mr. March. In between these two events, we again live, laugh, love and cry with Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth as they go through the many trials and tribulations that have made this story a classic.
