People of All Kinds Needed for the Formation of a New Theatrical Collective
at Sinking Ship Theatre Collective in St. Louis, MO
Hi there!
My name is Ben, and I'm a graduate theatre student at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. I'm writing because I'm going to be in St. Louis over the summer, and I'm interested in helping to foster the creation of a locally-based experimental theatre collective that would explore modes of cooperative, non-hierarchical expression, and I'm looking for people that might want to be a part of it.
My interest in theatre stems primarily from the fact that I see it as an immensely powerful, essentially egalitarian community-building tool. Theatre is capable of drawing together individuals possessed of infinitely disparate abilities, belief systems, sociopolitical and economic backgrounds, and other factors in the elaboration of a common, collective goal. It is my sincere hope that we can help to promote a greater consciousness of the transformative and edifying nature of theatre, and that all of us involved in this work will emerge with a sense of having traversed preconceived limits of human cooperation.
A laudable goal, I believe, would be to build some kind of lasting local infrastructure for an ongoing decentralized forum (Theatre of the Oppressed-style) that will allow people to openly and civilly act out their thoughts (however seemingly trifling) and work together to bridge rifts and formulate equitable and egalitarian solutions to problems that they're facing. If this sounds like something that you might have an interest in working on, please apply directly to this notice. Thanks so much, and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
