Last Minute Auditions for DEARLY DEPARTED
at Affton Center Stage in Affton, MO
Affton Center Stage originally planned to produce the musical Forum, but due to some unforeseen circumstances we have had to put that show on the back burner until a later date. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused for potential performers coming to audition.
Instead we will be producing the hilarious comedy Dearly Departed by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. Dearly Departed follows the beleaguered Turpin family who prove that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. Despite their earnest efforts to pull themselves together for their father's funeral, the Turpin's other problems keep overshadowing the solemn occasion: Firstborn Ray-Bud drinks himself silly as the funeral bills mount; Junior, the younger son, is juggling financial ruin, a pack of no-neck monster kids, and a wife who suspects him of infidelity in the family car; their spinster sister, Delightful, copes with death as she does life, by devouring junk food; and all the neighbors add more than two cents. As the situation becomes fraught with mishap, Ray-Bud says to his long-suffering wife, "When I die, don't tell nobody. Just bury me in the backyard and tell everybody I left you." Amidst the chaos, the Turpins turn for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric community of misfits who just manage to pull together and help each other through their hours of need, and finally, the funeral.
To bring this wonderful show to life, we are looking for a cast of 6 men and 8 women.
We are looking for people who can pull off a Southern accent. It doesn't have to be perfect but at least be willing to try.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday August 15th from 6:30 - 9:00 and on Saturday August 18th from 9:00am - 11:30am.
If you're auditioning, please bring a resume, your sense of humor and your calendar of conflicts. Let's be honest, we all say we have full availability when we audition, but the second we are cast - BOOM - conflicts galore. I am perfectly happy to work around conflicts if I know about them up front.
Auditions and rehearsals will be held at the Affton Center Stage rehearsal space at
803 Lafayette Avenue Webster Groves, MO 63119.
Rehearsals will be primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays with occasional Wednesdays and Sundays.
Performances will be held at The Robert G. Reim Theatre in the Kirkwood Civic Center
on October 12-14.
