Auditions for COCA's Theatre Intensive: Lookingglass Lab
at COCA in University City, MO
April 23rd from 4pm – 5:30pm
From June 14 – June 25, COCA will be hosting a theatre intensive for high school students taught by Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre. During the intensive, students will follow the Lookingglass lab process to create and perform a theatre piece based around the inquiry question: what does it mean to come of age? Through research, interviews and an exploration of different art forms, students will create a performance piece that reflects their feelings about being a young adult. They will look at the ways other generations came of age as well as cross cultural rituals surrounding the transition to adulthood. What are the pivotal differences between being a child and adult? Are teens today “older” than in generations past? What does that mean and how does it play out in everyday life? The final product will be performed on the second Friday of the intensive.
The next audition will be held at COCA on April 23rd from 4pm – 5:30pm. All auditions are by appointment. Appointments can be made by emailing sflanigan@cocastl.org. Students are asked to bring in something that they have written and a monologue to perform (these can be the same). Through special arrangement, need based scholarships will be available for students for this intensive who are accepted by audition.
Lookingglass Theatre is a nationally recognized and award winning theatre that combines physical and improvisational theatre. The Lookingglass Lab program, the training program for high school students, uses the same ensemble building and script creation techniques used to create its award winning productions.
