Auditions for HARVEY - REMINDER
at Hard Road Theatre in Highland, IL
A Reminder
Tonight (Mon. Aug. 23) and tomorrow (Tues., Aug. 24) at 7:00 PM, Hard Road Theatre Productions, in association with the Highland Arts Council, will hold auditions for their fall production of Harvey. The show is being directed by John Goldsmith.
Written by Mary Chase, the original production of Harvey ran for 1,775 performances on Broadway and was adapted into a movie in 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart. Harvey revolves around the affable Elwood P. Dowd, a middle-aged bachelor who likes to drink. Elwood’s best friend is a rabbit over 6 feet tall who is presumed by most to be imaginary. After Elwood starts to introduce Harvey to the guests at a society party held by his sister Veta for her daughter Myrtle Mae, Veta decides to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium. Upon arrival at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues and Veta is committed instead. Meanwhile, Elwood becomes friends with several of the staff members and “escapes” the grounds. He eventually returns to the sanitarium seeking Harvey. Unbeknownst to Elwood, the staff wishes to inject him with a formula that will “make him normal.” However, at the last minute Veta realizes how terrible that would be and stops the injection, deciding she’d rather have her loving, kind, and pleasant brother around even if it means living with Harvey.
Auditions will be held at the Upper Elementary Auditorium, 1800 Lindenthal Ave., Highland, IL. Auditions will consist mostly of readings from the script. Auditions are open to all adults. There are roles for 6 females and 6 males. Those auditioning should be aware of any conflicts they may have between Aug. 26-Oct. 9, 2010. Harvey will be performed at the Upper Elementary Auditorium in Highland at 7:30 P.M. Oct. 1, 2, 8 & 9 and at 2:00 P.M. Oct. 3rd.
Hard Road Theatre Productions is a non-profit theatre organization committed to providing the Highland area with high-quality, affordable, live productions. For more information about Harvey or Hard Road Theatre in general, visit the Hard Road website at www.hardroad.org or call 618-654-7748.
