Auditions will be held Saturday, February 18 at the offices of The Eleven, Inc 360 N. Boyle(CWE) 63108. 1.5 blocks north of Lindell on Boyle. 9 am – 12. with callbacks immediately to follow. at 1 pm

Please bring a headshot/resume and prepare one 2 min Monologue. If you have performed with the company in the past you may come to callbacks and are not required to present a monologue.

Character Breakdown

The Patients

Chief Bromden – The narrator of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Chief Bromden is the son of the chief of the Columbia Indians and a white woman. He suffers from paranoia and hallucinations, has received multiple electroshock treatments, and has been in the hospital for ten years, longer than any other patient in the ward. Bromden sees modern society as a huge, oppressive conglomeration that he calls the Combine and the hospital as a place meant to fix people who do not conform. Bromden chronicles the story of the mental ward while developing his perceptual abilities and regaining a sense of himself as an individual.

Billy Bibbit – A shy patient. Billy has a bad stutter and seems much younger than his thirty-one years. Billy Bibbit is dominated by his mother, one of Nurse Ratched’s close friends. Billy is voluntarily in the hospital, as he is afraid of the outside world.

Scanlon – The only Acute besides McMurphy who was involuntarily committed to the hospital. Scanlon has fantasies of blowing things up.

Martini – Another hospital patient. Martini lives in a world of delusional hallucinations, but McMurphy includes him in the board and card games with the other patients.

Charles Cheswick – The first patient to support McMurphy’s rebellion against Nurse Ratched’s power. Cheswick, a man of much talk and little action, drowns in the pool—possibly a suicide—after McMurphy does not support Cheswick when Cheswick takes a stand against Nurse Ratched. Cheswick’s death is significant in that it awakens McMurphy to the extent of his influence and the mistake of his decision to conform.

Pete Bancini – A hospital patient who suffered brain damage when he was born. Pete Bancini continually declares that he is tired, and at one point he tells the other patients that he was born dead.

Ruckly – A patient who is a vegetable.

The Staff

Aides Williams and Warren-Daytime aides filled with hatred. The abuse the patients but are under the command of Nurse Ratched.

Dr. Spivey – The main doctor on the ward, Dr. Spivey is easily manipulated by both Nurse Ratched and R.P. McMurphy, who in turn use him as a pawn. McMurphy uses him as his institutional defense on the ward, convincing him to open the tub room and to chaperone the patients on the fishing trip. Nurse Ratched, meanwhile, uses him to champion her authoritarian policies to discipline rebellious inmates.

Mousey, afraid of her own shadow.

Mr. Turkle

The night watchman on the ward. McMurphy bribes Mr. Turkle to allow Candy Starr into the ward.

Outsiders

Candy Starr – A beautiful, carefree prostitute from Portland.

Sandra – A prostitute who knows McMurphy.

After signing a waiver and agreeing to the rules, audience members are forced to walk through the haunted house alone; confronting such universal fears as complete darkness, tight spaces, crawling, and intense sexual and violent situations. Outfitted with only a protective face mask, a small flashlight, and a $1 shot of whiskey, this “true horror experience” (Fangoria) and the New York Times’ “extreme theatre event of the year” lasts approximately 30 minutes per person.
BLACKOUT subverts the traditional haunted house genre by erasing two of the most important and universal of ‘haunted house’ rules; you have friends to hang onto, and you will not be touched. PLOT SUMMARY

“The Foreigner” is set in a resort-style fishing lodge in rural Georgia in the early 1980s. The uproarious comedy revolves around pathologically shy Charlie Baker—an English proofreader who has been cheated on by his supposedly dying wife. Unable to socialize, he is introduced to the lodge residents by his sanguine British army friend, Froggy, as one who doesn’t understand a word of English. Before long, Charlie finds himself privy to assorted secrets and scandals freely discussed in front of him. Some of these secrets involve a pregnancy, an inheritance scheme, and a racist county property inspector’s plan to oust lodge owner Betty meeks and convert the lodge into a meeting place for the Klan. Charlie, of course, saves the day.

Betty Meeks – Proprietor of Betty Meeks’ Fishing Lodge/Resort in Tilghman County, Georgia. A chatterbox who becomes much happier after Charlie comes into her life. 50-70

Sgt.Froggy LeSueur – A staff sergeant in the British army, Charlie’s good friend; very gregarious. British accent. 30-50

Charlie Baker – The “foreigner” of the title. An English proofreader who is appallingly shy. Georgia changes him! 40s

Rev. David Marshall Lee – A “regular fella”—humorous and open, and a member of the KKK!! He is engaged to Catherine, but is really only interested in her money. mid-to-late 20s

Catherine Simms – A wealthy former debutante living at the lodge, engaged to David, and older sister to ellard. She is formidable and just found out she is pregnant. 20s

Owen Musser – Property inspector for Tilghman County. He is a two-tattoo man, a racist, and a Klansman. He is villainous! 40-60

Ellard Simms – The Forrest-Gump like younger brother of Catherine. He is a backward youth who spends much of his time kneading something tiny and invisible in front of his chest. Charlie and he become student/teacher! 15-30

May’s Assistant – 25-30 (female) – She’s sweet & new to the job and slightly intimidated by May. Think Jenna Fischer (The Office)

Stoner – 20-35 – Pretty stereotypical stoner-type. He loves big gulps and watching TV until 4 in the morning.

Comic Nerd – 20-35 – Is very familiar with vampire lore and especially movies/comics about vampires.

Patient – 25-50 (male or female) – OCD. Speaks very quickly and tends to repeat themself. Did I mention they repeat themself?
