Auditions for "Jesus Christ Superstar"

NEWS FROM NEW LINE
===================
AUDITIONS FOR MULTI-RACIAL CAST
FOR "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR"

New Line Theatre will hold auditions for the world-famous rock opera, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, on two successive Monday evenings, March 6 and 13, 2006, at 7:00 p.m., at the ArtLoft Theatre, 1529 Washington, two miles east of the Fox Theatre. Performers need to come to only one of the dates. Performers are asked to bring a prepared theatre song, preferably in rock or pop style, with printed piano music (no tapes please). There will also be a short dance audition. SUPERSTAR will be produced at the Art Loft Theatre for 12 performances over four weeks, June 1-24, 2006. For more info about the show, go to www.newlinetheatre.com/jcspage.html

This is the musical that rocked the world, that prompted boycotts, picketing, bomb threats, and letter writing campaigns all over America, the musical that dared to recount the Greatest Story Ever Told in the earthiest, most democratic, most populist language of all -- rock and roll. Featuring amazing songs like "Jesus Christ Superstar," "I Don't Know How to Love Him,""Everything's Alright," and "Heaven On Their Minds." New Line will be placing the show in contemporary times to make more clear the political and social position of each of the main characters, their power (or lack of it), their agenda, and their relationship to our lives today -- no gimmicks, just clear, relevant storytelling.

New Line plans something very special with this show -- the two actors playing Jesus and Judas will swap roles each week of the run, allowing them to play both sides of that remarkable relationship, and to give the cast and the audience two equally valid ways to see these two powerful characters. One of these two actors has been cast.

Tim Rice's story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus focuses on his role as a neophyte political activist, with clear parallels to the hippie movements of the 1960s and the growing political activism today in America. Jesus challenged the political leaders of his time as well as the leaders of organized religion.

New Line is looking for a multi-racial cast of 16-20 adult men and women, all age 17 or older, who are strong actors, who sing well, and who are willing to take risks onstage. We will not be changing the genders of any of the leads, but we will be casting women as disciples and in the ensemble. The show will be directed by Scott Miller, with choreography by Robin Berger.

Rehearsals will be three nights a week, on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., starting in late March, plus every night the week the show opens. The show runs Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, for four weeks, June 1-24, 2006 at the ArtLoft. Performers will share a guaranteed 10% of box office receipts. Call 314-773-6526 for more information. No appointments are necessary. All performers should arrive at the audition before 7:00 p.m. New Line is a non-union professional theatre company and is very eager to cast a multi-racial company. Casting for "The Tempest"

Casting for "THE TEMPEST" in St. Charles, MO

Much Ado Circus is casting for its summer production of "The Tempest."  In this adaptation the play will be set in a Coney Island sideshow.  Circus elements will be used as metaphors.  There will be a large number of cuts to the original text.

Generally, we are looking for actors, circus artists, and musicians in various combinations.

Specifically we are looking for a strong actor to play Prospero (with or without circus skills).  We are also looking for competent club-jugglers who could be a convincing young couple: Miranda and Ferdinand.

We are primarily looking for non-equity members but would consider an equity guest-artist contract for the right Prospero.

The production will run Thursdays-Sundays beginning June 8 and ending June 25.  It will be held at the Newtown amphitheatre (near I-370 and Elm).  Housing will be provided for out-of-town performers.

Local Film Casting

Schrader Turner Films is now auditioning for their short digital film, Mere Sentience. Open auditions will take place at the Schrader Turner Films office, from 6 to 8 PM, on three consecutive Fridays: February 10, 17, and 24.
Mere Sentience is being financed in its entirety by Schrader Turner Films. Thus it is a non-union production that will require lots of energy, passion, and exhaustive work by its cast and crew. Of course low budget does not exclude professionalism. The shoot will have scene breakdowns, a professional schedule board, professional equipment, shot lists, storyboards, call sheets, etc. Schrader Turner Films is a real business and as such will have paperwork, legal documents, permits, releases, and insurance. And there will be craft services and free lunch! Yes, the budget is low, but the production value will be high. With that said, all roles, small, supporting, and lead, will be paid a good (worth the time commitment) salary for their performance.

Mere Sentience is being made with the goal of entering regional and national film festivals. We also see Mere Sentience as a vehicle for financing our next film. This is the real deal—on-set professionalism will be matched by energy and creativity.

Special appointments can be made for auditions.
