Non-Equity Auditions for NonProphet Theater Company

The NonProphet Theater Company, stalwarts of the St. Louis theater and comedy scene, are holding non-Equity auditions for their signature sketch show THE MILITANT PROPAGANDA BINGO MACHINE. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Washington University West Library, located in Clayton at Jackson and Forsythe Avenue, near the new MetroLink line.

We are looking for energetic, exuberant, and talented writers/performers for our next series of sketch shows. These shows will be at various places and times over the 2006-2007 season. We are looking to cast eight actors (four males and four females). Four alternates will be cast as well (two men, two women). We also may also consider applications for Writer Only Positions.

The NonProphets embrace a no-holds-barred style of writing. But that doesn't necessarily mean that we aim to work blue. Our focus is to ensure that each and every sketch that we perform—whether it be funny or serious—has a point to it. And if you need to be really outrageous and wrong to get to that point, then so be it. We tend to not censor ourselves, and our style of writing is modeled from many different types of comedy. If you have an appreciation for Monty Python, Mr. Show, Kids In The Hall, Second City, The Groundlings, Upright Citizen's Brigade, The State, SNL, Mad TV, The Neo-Futurists, or the work of Eugene Ioensco, then The NonProphets are right up your alley.

Auditions will consist of readings from current NonProphet material, as well as two sketch submissions. Sketch submissions brought to auditions will not be retained by The NonProphet Theater Company unless the performer or writer is hired. Performers will be required to write for the show.

ONCE A PERFORMER OR WRITER IS HIRED, EVERY SKETCH SUBMITTED FOR PERFORMANCE BECOMES THE PROPERTY OF THE NONPROPHET THEATER COMPANY. ALL SIGNATURE CHARACTERS CREATED BY ANY WRITER OR PERFORMER REMAIN THE SOLE PROPERTY OF THE WRITER OR PERFORMER.

Rehearsals will be two to three nights a week, at times to be determined once the show is cast. Performances may be on any night of the week, depending on location. We currently have two potential ten week runs lined up, and more information will be available at audition time.

Directors for the shows will be Tyson Blanquart & Bob Mitchell. No appointment is needed for auditions. For more information or directions to the library, call 314-752-5075 or email binkle28@gmail.com.

The NonProphet Theater Company is a professional, non-Equity theater company, now in its 11 th year. The mission of The NonProphet Theater Company is to provide an outlet for established and original artistic works, and to offer creative and educational opportunities for artists and the public.

Young boy needed

Due to circumstances beyond our control, First Run Theatre Company is
in dire need of a young boy for its' upcoming production of "Picture
Perfect", a drama by DJ Sanders, directed by Russell J. Bettlach.

Rehearsals begin on July 5 and will be on Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday evenings. Production dates are: August 18, 19 25, and 26 at
8:00 PM, and August 27, at 2:00 PM. Any conflicts can probably be
worked out with the director. For further information, or to arrange
an interview/audition, please contact me (the producer) at
314-849-1810, or the director at 314-631-8534.

Here's a synopsis of the play:
Synopsis: Sarah Whitfield has recently brought home her husband from
the hospital after he suffered a second stroke placing him in a coma.
As she anticipates the arrival of her son, her grandson, and her
grandson's mother for a special birthday celebration, every hour is
critical to ensure the house is properly prepared for their weekend
visit.
Sarah's prayers are answered when Jackie, a home health care worker,
arrives to help Sarah care for her husband, prepare for visitors, and
offer her the support she needs. Matthew, the eldest and only
surviving son, arrives to discover his mother has neglected to inform
him of his father's medical condition.
Attention is diverted from the feuding mother and son when Alyssa and
Rubin arrive. The eight-year-old grandson is truly the apple of his
grandmother's eye while Alyssa remains estranged from the other
family members because she never married the now deceased Mark
Whitfield. Over the course of the visit,
Sarah's strong Christian morals clash with Matthew's outspoken
political stances, as well as his lifestyle. Each family member is
resolute in sharing his or her opinions, but is anyone willing to
listen?
Picture Perfect, at its heart, is about family and forgiveness. Three
generations of Whitfield's find themselves in this awkward family
reunion struggling to relate to one another. Family secrets, regrets,
and grudges all come to the surface as emotions are heightened by the
possible loss of a family member. This drama is an honest portrait of
the contemporary American family and reflects the clash between
traditional family values and modern ideologies.
