Auditions for Domestic Violence Benefit

The Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois in conjunction with the Miners Institute Foundation is seeking volunteers in the way of female actors and production help (male or female) for their upcoming benefit performance of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues."  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois.

The audition date is February 1, 2007 at 7pm.  Rehearsals will be held February 8th and 16th both at 7pm.  The show date is Feb 17 at 7pm.  Very little memorization will be required.   Auditions, rehearsals and performances will take place at the Historic Miners Theatre located at 204 W Main St., Collinsville, IL 62234.  For more information call 618-344-0026 or email cmize@minersinstitute.org..  Our website is www.minersinstitute.org.  Below is a brief description of the show and event.

The power of "The Vagina Monologues" around the world is its ability to galvanize, enlighten, inspire a sense of self and activism, and communicate issues that are often difficult to articulate or hear. The play allows audiences to immerse in topics that are otherwise taboo, silenced by the media, stifled by the mind that does not want to contend with such painful or personal images about ourselves or others.
THE STORY: An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who "liked to look at it."
