NEWS FROM NEW LINE
New Line Theatre will hold auditions for the outrageous hit Broadway
musical URINETOWN, on two successive Monday evenings, March 12 and
19, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., at the ArtLoft Theatre, 1529 Washington, two
miles east of the Fox Theatre. Performers need to come to only one of
the dates. Performers are asked to bring a prepared theatre song,
with printed piano music (no tapes please). There will also be a
short dance audition. URINETOWN will be produced at the Art Loft
Theatre for 12 performances over four weeks, May 31-June 23, 2007.
For more info about the show, including a list of roles, go to
www.newlinetheatre.com/urinepage.html or for other audition info,
visit our Frequently Asked Questions.
URINETOWN is the wildly funny, ballsy, transgressive fable of greed,
corruption, love, revolution, and urination, in a time when water is
worth its weight in gold and there's no such thing as a free pee. Set
in a near-future dystopian Gotham, a terrible water shortage has
caused a 20-year draught and led to a government-enforced ban on
private toilets. The citizens are forced to use public "amenities"
now, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by
charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. In this
nightmare world, the punishment for an unauthorized pee is a trip to
the dreaded Urinetown. But from the ruins of Democracy and courtesy
flushes, there rises an unlikely hero who decides he's held it long
enough, and he launches a People's Revolution to lead them all to
urinary freedom!
New Line is looking for a multi-racial cast of 10 adult men and 6
adult women. We will not cast anyone under 17. New Line is looking
for strong actors who sing well and who are willing to take risks
onstage. Performers are asked to bring a prepared theatre song, with
printed piano music for our pianist. They may also be asked to sing
from the Urinetown score. The show will be directed by Scott Miller,
with choreography by Robin Berger.
Rehearsals will be three nights a week, on Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., starting in early April,
as well as several Sunday afternoons, and every night the week the
show opens. The show runs Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, for
four weeks, May 31-June 23, 2007 at the ArtLoft. Performers will
share a guaranteed 10% of box office receipts. Call 314-773-6526 for
more information No appointments are necessary. All performers should
arrive at the audition before 7:00 p.m. New Line is a non-union
professional company and is very eager to cast a multi-racial company.
