Actors and Writers needed ASAP

ACTORS & WRITERS NEEDED THIS SATURDAY

Scriptmechanics invites actors, writers, and other interested parties
to attend it's scripreading workshop, this Saturday afternoon.
Actors can practice their cold reading techniques; writers can learn
how to improve their scripts.

THIS MONTH WE will read Paul Heet's his period piece on the Lemp
family beer dynasty. A wide variety of actresses and actors are
needed for this script reading. Everyone is welcome. There is no
charge.

Script Mechanics aims to assist scriptwriters in polishing their
script. The writer hears their dialogue and gets fresh insights into
their character from the actors' take on the script. The actors and
other writers in the organization offer suggestions and comments at
the end of the reading.

Script Mechanics meets the second Saturday of the month at the Buder
Library. The library is just south of the Chippewa and Hampton
intersection; the address is 4401 Hampton Ave, 63109. It's the brick
building with turquoise and glass trim. We will be in the small
meeting room downstairs from 1:00 - 5:45; however, the reading may
not take quite that long. Parking is available behind and south of
the building and in the lot in front of the bank across the side
street to the north.

Film Synopsis:
"Death can be dreadful and worthwhile, depending on where you stand.
In the Dead and the Dreaming, eight tales unravel deaths secrets, as
the characters unravel theirs. On a dark country road, a hit man
finds a reason. On the rivers edge, two white trash thugs find the
rhyme. While two men debate bullets over cancer, four gunrunners
debate death over prison. As one madman plays a lethal game of chess,
another falls for the photographer who stalks him. Ranging from
foreign language to silent film, The Dead and the Dreaming throws
different flowers at the coffin. Eight short films tell a story with
one message: Death is a mysterious creature; teaching while it takes
away."

Non-Equity Auditions

The Theatre Guild of Webster Groves (TGWG) will hold non-equity, cold-
reading auditions for Herbert E. Swayne's CURSE OF AN ACHING HEART on
Tuesday, July 10th at 7:00 PM

SHOW DATES:
Public performances Sept. 7-9, 13-16
(possible private performances Sept. 20-23)
DIRECTOR: Jill Kranzberg

SYNOPSIS: Modern treatment of an old melodrama. Sweet Melody falls
into the hands of scoundrel Windermere. After they're married,
Windermere expects her to carry out his criminal schemes. Melody
flees to None Such ranch, where she falls in love with stalwart
Lucius. Windermere finds her, and the classic confrontation between
hero and scoundrel begins.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
Roles are available for 4 adult M, 7 adult F.

MALES:
Hiram Abernathy - Small, wizened-up man in his late fifties.
Partially bald, what remains of his hair is pure white, as are his
long whiskers. Speech rough and untutored. Kind heart and a warm smile.

Windermere Hightower - Tall, powerfully-built villian in his late
thirties steeped in the ways of infamy. Twirls his large, fierce
black moustache incessantly. Suave and oily when trying to gain a
point. Gives the impression of being debonair, a man of the world.

Lucius Goodenough - Manly-bosomed hero, tall, stalwart, handsome boy
in his late twenties. Smooth-shaven with a warm smile that wins him
many friends. Slow to anger, but when he does lose his temper, voice
becomes high and shrill. Possessed of an intriguing personality, the
more you see of Lucius, the better you like him.

Unexpected Arrival - Tall, robust-appearing man in his early forties
with iron-grey hair. Obviously a man of great wealth and position.

FEMALES:
Mrs. (Sarah) Abernathy - Tall stout woman in her middle fifties. Nice-
looking, motherly sort. Gives the impression of being very efficient.
Rules Hiram with an iron will.

Battle Axe Annie - Short, stockily-built woman in her late forties.
Possesses a very high opinion of herself. Nothing is too much for
Annie to attempt! Speaks in an authoritative manner. Happiest when
bossing people around.

Red Wing - Pretty, 20-ish Indian girl. Medium height. Inclined to be
silent. Her usual "Ugh!" sounds like a grunt. Rarely smiles, is of a
serious nature.

Aurelia Abernathy - Small girl in early twenties. Because of her
diminutive size, appears to be younger than she is. Spirited,
vivacious. Gives the impression of being of a restless nature.

Melody Lane - Spotless young heroine. Mid-twenties. Inclined to be
hefty. Because she is built along generous lines, she gives the
impression of being older than she really is. The great amount of
trouble she's endured has left its mark of suffering on her
beautiful face. Obvious at a glance that she's a gentlewoman with a
high purpose in life. Carries herself proudly. Modest and sincere.

Nellie Blythe - Tall, angular. Late forties. Possessed of a most
garrulous manner. Well-poised, very sure of herself. Voice high and
shrill.

Muriel Atkins - Medium height, mid-twenties. Type of girl who knows
her way around. Inclined to be hard-boiled. It is difficult to put
anything over on Muriel. Heavily made-up, presents a smart appearance.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
The audition format is cold reading. (We hand you a script, and have
you read a passage.)

REHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION DATES:

Thursdays.
