CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS OF NEW PLAYS
HotCity Theatre of St. Louis, Missouri, announces a call for submission of new plays for the Third Annual GreenHouse New Play Festival, to be held in July of 2008.
We will be accepting submissions through January 1, 2008. Submissions received after January 1, 2008, will not be considered for inclusion in the 2008 New Play Festival.
Between four and eight plays will be selected for the Festival. These plays will receive a professional staged reading. Post-show talkbacks, audience survey cards, and guest
respondents will provide extensive feedback. Three guest respondents, in conjunction with HotCity staff, will select one Jury Prize recipient. This play will receive a week-long
developmental workshop in early December, 2008, with a professional dramaturge, director, and cast before receiving a professional world premiere in HotCity Mainstage's
2009 season.
We are looking for plays that meet the following criteria:
--no more than six actors (more than six characters is fine as long as no more than six actors are required to play all the roles)
--a running time of between 75 and 150 minutes
--never before published or professionally mounted
We will be accepting these submissions in two stages. Before January 1, 2008, please E-MAIL the following materials to submissions@hotcitytheatre.org:
--a one-pager that introduces yourself and outlines the play's reading/production history, casting requirements, and approximate running time
--a one-page plot synopsis
--a ten-page sample from the text
NOTE: format all three of these items into ONE Word document. Your submission must be one document, or it will not be considered. Also, please no pdf's or scans. Only Word
documents will be considered.
DO NOT SEND THE ENTIRE TEXT. Submissions that include the entire text will not be considered.
Due to the extremely developmental nature of this program, you are encouraged to submit not only finished plays but plays that you are still actively exploring.
After January 1, 2008, the HotCity reading committee will select approximately 20 plays and contact those playwrights, asking for complete texts. The festival selections will come
out of those 20 plays.
Visit our website—hotcitytheatre.org—to get a sense of our company, and we look forward to reading your submissions!
