A Call to Conscience Interactive Theatre for Social Change in collaboration with Bread & Roses Missouri is seeking submissions for “Social Justice Shorts” a one-act play festival on April 18 -20, 2024, venue TBD.
The company is seeking 10-minute short plays and 30-minute or less one-acts plays centered around the following themes:
● LGBTQIA+ & Transgender Issues
● Mental Health
● Economic Justice/Workers’ Rights
● Police Brutality/Gun Violence
● Health Disparity
● Immigrant/Refugee Struggles
● Homeless/Unhoused Issues
● Racial Justice
Storytelling must be rich in self-expression and theatrical imagination.
Plays with a cast of at least one to five characters will be considered (we will not accept plays with more than 5 characters). One person plays will be considered.
Plays with music acceptable providing a band is not needed.
Limited set, props and technical requirements are strongly preferred.
Playwrights please email 1) a bio or resume; 2) 10 consecutive pages of your play; 3) title page/synopsis; and 4) cast breakdowns to A Call to Conscience Artistic Director Fannie Lebby: fannie.c2c@gmail.com
Submissions will be accepted now until December 15, 2023.
Plays will be judged on the following criteria:
● Plot
● Character Development
● Dialogue
● Clear social justice theme
● Overall writing quality
It is acceptable to submit more than one play. The play must not have had any productions or be published. Playwrights who submit will be notified of the results either way by January 15, 2024. There is no submission or participation fee. Playwrights will receive a stipend if your play is accepted. We hope to have the honor of reading YOUR play soon.
