Chorus of Fools is holding in-person auditions for its spring production of Romeo & Juliet, performing April 9-19, 2025, at K2K North Location, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3519 N. 14th Street, St. Louis, MO 63107.

NOTICE: All time slots are completely full on Saturday, November 22, 2025!
We have added limited audition slots on Sunday, November 23, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 6:00-9:30 PM.

You will receive a confirmation email with your assigned audition time and digital copies of audition sides. No need to bring printed materials.
AVAILABLE ROLES
- Romeo: a Montague
- Juliet: a Capulet
- Mercutio: friend to Romeo
- Benvolio: friend and cousin to Romeo
- Tybalt: Juliet’s cousin
- Friar Laurence: a counselor to Romeo and Juliet
- Nurse: Juliet’s primary confidante
- Capulet: Juliet’s father
- Lady Capulet: Juliet’s mother
- Ensemble Members: All other roles—including Lord & Lady Montague, Paris, Prince Escalus, servants, musicians, and citizens of Verona—will be played by ensemble members who portray multiple characters throughout the production. Ensemble performers will be featured prominently and integral to the world of the play.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- Please arrive early to complete paperwork and note any scheduling conflicts.
- Please prepare a 60-second monologue (classical or contemporary) that demonstrates your range and connection to text.
- Be prepared to read from the provided sides, which will be available in advance and at auditions.
- Some ensemble members will sing in the production. If you’d like to be considered for a singing role, please prepare a short (90-second) song in any style that feels authentic to you.
- All actors must be 18 years or older.
- We welcome and encourage actors of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, and backgrounds to audition.

February 23 – April 8 (weeknights and occasional weekends)
DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I want to meet Romeo and Juliet as if I’ve never heard the story. Not the balcony, not the feud—just two people seeing each other for the first time, and the world holding its breath. I want to make a version of this play that feels present, alive, and human—not bound by expectation or tradition.
We’ll be working with a gender-blind approach. That means any actor may audition for any role. What matters most is honesty—what you bring to the text that no one else can.

ON INTIMACY
We are exploring the excitement, danger, and recklessness of youthful passion in Romeo and Juliet—the wonder of love and sexuality—while keeping our rehearsal room safe, professional, and fully respectful of actor boundaries. All intimate and physically vulnerable scenes will be choreographed with a trained intimacy director. Full disclosure about the nature of these scenes will be provided at auditions and callbacks, with questionnaires to indicate comfort levels and consent prior to casting.
