Jesse Bands (22-34) – Jesse is a stand up comic. He’s quit everything he ever tried in his life: Friends, relationships, jobs. Comedy is the one thing he won’t quit. When he loses a coveted spot on the stand up tour that he was desperately hoping to be on, he has a panic attack, revealing a hidden anxiety condition. He hasn’t talked to his best female friend Hope Adams in months since she got a new boyfriend. He has since quit the job she got for him. He secretly loves her but she only sees him as a platonic friend. Jesse comes from a broken family and has rejected most religious expression. When Hope offers to get him on the comedy tour if he impersonates her “perfect mate” a Professor at a religious college, he takes the opportunity to help her impress her family. Knowing very little about religion he has to rely on his resilient attitude and and quick comic whit to get to through the situations. He has to battle his anxiety disorder as well as the families unrealistic expectations in order to complete the mission. While there he learns to appreciate family and faith. He is challenged by the charade of pretending to be Hope’s boyfriend. What he secretly wants is for Hope to realize that he should be her perfect mate.
Hope Adams (22-34) – A marketing executive, Hope is assertive and in control. She is also a control freak and a perfectionist. When her boyfriends cheating devastates she enlists her platonic male friend to impersonate him. She is completely unaware of his feelings for her and is somewhat self centered. She wants to please her father and mother by bringing the perfect Christian future husband. She is in competition with her sister who seems to have the perfect life. Hope is tired of going to family
