General Auditions by appointment Monday and Tuesday, September 16 & 17, 2019. CALLBACKS are the evening of Thursday, September 19th, 2019, all at Winter Opera St. Louis.

This production runs for 13 performances from July 4, 2020 – July 26, 2020 at the .ZACK Theater. Rehearsals are estimated to begin June 1.

Please prepare 16-32 bars of classic or contemporary musical theatre.

Character Breakdown/Casting Requirements – Assassins 2020

Seeking a diverse ensemble of non-equity singer-actors of all ages. While many characters represent historical figures, our vision for this cast requires performers that visually represent our local community, not necessarily the real people being portrayed. Many named roles will also be expected to double in the chorus.


PROPRIETOR: An emcee/hypeperson type. Are you ready? I can’t hear you! Provides the assassins and would-be assassins with weapons and encouragement in their endeavors.

BALLADEER: An everyday contemporary American. Examines and describes the situations and perspectives of presidential assassins. A participatory narrator.

JOHN WILKES BOOTH: Assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, April 14, 1865. Ringleader to the gang of assassins and would-be assassins.

CHARLES GUITEAU: Assassinated President James Garfield, July 2, 1881.

LEON CZOLGOSZ: Assassinated President William McKinley, September 6, 1901.

LEE HARVEY OSWALD: Assassinated President John F. Kennedy, November 22, 1963.

GIUSEPPE ZANGARA: Attempted to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt, February 15, 1933.

SAMUEL BYCK: Attempted to assassinate President Richard Nixon, February 22, 1974.

LYNETTE “SQUEAKY” FROMME: Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, September 5, 1975.

SARA JANE MOORE: Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, September 22, 1975

JOHN HINCKLEY: Attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, March 30, 1981

EMMA GOLDMAN: Political activist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, anarchist and feminist. DAVID HEROLD: Aided John Wilkes Booth in his escape attempt after shooting Lincoln.

BILLY: Sara Jane Moore’s nine-year-old son
