Seeking Scenic and Lighting Designer to be Resident Guest Artist

The John Burroughs School is seeking applicants for a part time Designer to join a dynamic and collegial department of teachers who are also working artists. This Resident Guest Artist position would not be an enormous workload, but would supply a freelance artist with a regular monthly paycheck. The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
-an excellent working knowledge of lighting and projection technology
-experience as a professional scenic and lighting designer
-a minimum of a BA/BFA in design/technical theater or equivalent professional experience

The Designer would join the Theatre, Speech & Dance department as a permanent resident guest artist. The department mounts a season of three plays, one musical, a dance show, a showcase of student work, and, in conjunction with the Music and Fine Arts departments, a holiday program.

Duties would include:
-Design sets and lights for all productions
-Scenic painting and set decoration for all productions
-Design lights for the dance show
-Design lights for the holiday program
-Attend production meetings as needed
-Advise the Technical Director/Production manager regarding lighting   plots for non-theatrical use of the space (i.e. daily morning assembly, concerts, and special events).
-Advise the Technical Director/Production manager regarding maintenance of lighting  stock, light and sound boards, and related equipment
-Remain abreast of the latest technology in lighting and projection

The Designer would work with and be supported by our Costume Designer (a part time, resident guest artist) and our full time Technical Director/Production manager.
